🎯 Objectives

  • Use a balanced last step and strike through the center or lower half of the ball with confidence.
  • Look up early enough to choose a target before shooting.
  • Approach the ball under control instead of running past it.

🎒 Equipment Needed

1 ball per 2 players, cones for lines and target zones, 1-2 mini goals or a full goal, and spare balls beside the goal. Use two cone colors so you can change directions or targets with simple visual cues.

📐 Setup

Create a finishing lane with an approach cone, a service cone, and a goal or mini goals. The server or coach feeds the ball so the shooter must set it into the path and finish with control. Add movement, timing, or a second decision so technique still matters under mild pressure.

📋 How to Run It

  1. 1Set up a 16x18 yard shooting lane with a service point and one or two target goals.
  2. 2Explain that players are trying to finish off a bounce or rebound before the defender recovers.
  3. 3The shooter starts away from the ball, meets the service, takes a controlled first touch, and finishes before a second whistle or count.
  4. 4Alternate starting angles or sides so players strike with both feet and different body shapes.
  5. 5Score extra points for hitting a called target or finishing first time when the service allows it.

💡 Coaching Tips

  • Keep shooting lines short and use several starting spots if the group is large.
  • Coach accuracy before power, especially with younger players.
  • Use simple targets like left corner, right corner, or through the middle cones.
  • Celebrate proper striking technique even when the shot misses.

🔄 Variations

  • Easier: move the starting cone closer or allow a still ball finish.
  • Harder: call a corner target, add a rebound, or require a first touch before shooting.
  • Story version: every goal powers up the team rocket, castle, or rescue mission.
